Summary:
The article “Coca-Cola life: coke with fewer calories and less sugar to tackle obesity”, by Rebecca Smithers was published on June 11, 2014. It was published in The Guardian. The article introduces a new healthy take on Coca-Cola products. The company plans to introduce a coke can with a third less calories and a third less sugar in each can of coke in plans to help drop obesity rates. Unfortunately, health campaigners complained that the product was misleading shoppers. The new “Coca-Cola Life” product did have less sugar but still contained more than 4 grams of sugar in each can. This is equivalent to a quarter of a child’s daily intake of sugar. In the UK the government has committed Coca-Cola to reduce the amount of calories in their sparkling drinks by 5% by the end of 2014 as a part of their aim to improve health. Coke admits that they will continue to take actions that will help to better the population’s health.
Opinion:
As an avid coke drinker, I would be forever in debt to Coca-Cola if they came out with a product that had one third less sugar and calories. I think that it may not necessarily be the way to drop obesity rates but I do very well believe that it will help in a significant way. I also think that with introducing a healthier option, it will only lead to more healthy options to come. This is just a start to Coca-Cola creating drinks that follow a healthy lifestyle.
Feedback:
If you drink Coca-Cola, would you be interested in their new “Coca-Cola Life” product?
Do you think that introducing this product will help raise their revenue?
Do you think with the promotion of healthier options it will lead to creating more healthy options to come?

Teresa and I would definitely not be interested in the new Coca Cola Life product, because it seems as another imitation of the Coca Cola Zero product. These are just more marketing strategies aimed towards those consumers on the "health tip". And in our opinion Coca Cola Zero does not taste as good.
ReplyDeleteWe believe that the revenue would only change for a month or two, but eventually remain the same. Also the creation of this healthier option may lead to other products being made, but it will have no impact -- because Coke is a dominance in the soda department.
We would definitely be interested in trying the new Coca-Cola Life. We always prefer the healthier option when being not so healthy.
ReplyDeleteCoca-Cola seems to understand that they are losing some of their consumers due to popularity of other healthy drinks such as Vitamin Water. Pop is not always seen as "healthy" so by taking a product and removing sugar, calories and aspartame, I think they will be able to retrieve the customers they previously lost.
Definitely. Supply and demand dictates everything in a business. If the audience demands healthier options, businesses must respond in order to maintain their audience and to remain successful. If not, audiences will go somewhere else to get what they want.
Thanks for the response
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I do not drink Coca-Cola but if I did drink it I think I would try the Coca-Cola life because if I was addicted to coke then I rather drink something that is the same taste but is a little bit healthier for me so I would be able to drink more of it.
ReplyDeleteIntroducing this product might actually help raise their revenue because since a lot of people try to avoid drinking coke cause of the amount of sugar that is stored in it. If they hear that Coca-Cola Life has a very limited amount of sugar then everyone would think its like any regular pop like Sprite or even Ginger ale and will eventually start buying it.
with the promotion of healthier options I do believe that it will be leading to more healthier options because in todays society everyone is trying to lean towards the healthier side which is like eating salads or drinking protein shakes. So obviously Coca-Cola would not want to lose their customers and will eventually try to invent healthier drinks to draw in their customers.
